Readying You for the Workforce
with In-Demand Skills
This two-year competency-based program for Information Technology requires coursework, mentorship, and on-job training as part of paid employment, providing practical work experience across three phases for students grades 11 and 12.
Dataseam and K-12 district partners prepare candidates for information technology careers, addressing vital sector technology demands in education, community banking and healthcare, state & local government for Kentucky.
Apprentice candidates complete a minimum 300 hours of training and instruction as well as a minimum 600 hours paid employment during the Registered Apprenticeship. Participants have the opportunity to earn industry-standard certifications.
Similar to other skilled trades, candidates may earn a United States Department of Labor Journeyworker Certification for Information Technology Specialist, indicating work-ready status and the capacity to enter the workforce sooner and more successfully.
In addition to Apprentices being paid as part of first jobs for many, each candidate receives a MacBook Pro laptop supporting On-Job Training and everyday classroom use. For successful Apprentices, these are earned to carry them into university or the workforce.
Registered Apprenticeship is overseen for the United States Department of Labor by the Kentucky Education and Labor Cabinet.
The Registered Apprenticeship Application Portal for the 2025-2027 cohort will open March 1, 2025 – April 30, 2025.
